5 Steps to help you do more of the things you want.

Do you ever wonder that you should be doing more with your life?

I do, and I’m not talking once a month. So far it’s practically every few days and my bucket list is getting long!!

I might be an educator but firstly, I’m still a person and I have a lot to be thankful for and I in no way want to discredit that but there is a wide world out there that’s rich with culture, adventure and opportunities to support others.

In this post, I explore how to take what’s on your mind and capturing the things that you want to do and how you can get them done.
Everyone has those moments where they find themselves staring out the window miles away imagining being somewhere that not here, doing something you’ve always wanted to do, bettering society, or chilling out with your someone… we all have dreams and amongst the madness, there are some worth chasing and crossing off the list!

There’s a quote by Bill Bryson in ‘A short history of nearly everything’ that I find puts life in perspective and motivates me to make use of the time I have…

Not one of your pertinent ancestors was squashed, devoured, drowned, starved, stranded, stuck fast, untimely wounded, or otherwise deflected from its life’s quest of delivering a tiny charge of genetic material to the right partner at the right moment in order to perpetuate the only possible sequence of hereditary combinations that could result — eventually, astoundingly, and all too briefly — in you.

That’s right, we are lucky to be here at all, and we don’t have a lot of time, in the greater scheme of things, so let’s make every moment count – do more of the things you love with those you love…!!

For me, it’s about being with those I care about, helping others to tap into their potential, tapping into my own, travelling and sharing the world through my lens. Step one was to expand my interest in coaching and I had to learn photography!!

Now, 2 years later, I’m a Live Event and Wedding Photographer, I started coaching people at the beginning of the year and pleased to say I get to travel from time-to-time as well.

It all started with an idea, a thought, a daydream that I wanted to realise.

So, are you ready to try this quick exercise will help you draw out sone vetted goals for you to make happen?

Let’s go…

What will you need?

  • You’ll need paper, pen and a highlighter for this.

Step 1: Write it Down

Get a piece of paper and list all the things that are on your mind that you want to achieve.

Keep writing until you have a healthy list, maybe even a page or two.

Step 2: Make Sure They’re Realistic.

Looking at your list, it’s important to consider the knock effects your goals might have on your ecology (family, friends & environment).

Ask yourself which of these goals will cause the most upset or negative impact? – You may want to cross these off as it’ll be unlikely you’ll be able to get encouragement or support for them.

Step 3: The Highlight

Now, reviewing your list, highlight the one that stands out the most.

Write this on a fresh page.

Step 4: Your Core Values

Does this goal align with your core values and your beliefs?

If so, continue to Step 5.

If not, go back to Step 3 and select the next goal that stands out to you.

Step 5: Moving F.O.R.W.A.R.D

Now that you have your real goal, that aligns with your values and ecology, it’s now time to make a plan.Using my F.O.R.W.A.R.D goal setting process, explore your goal and the actions required to achieve it.

Using the F.O.R.W.A.R.D goal setting process, explore your goal and the actions required to achieve it.

**F – Future Self **– Visualise yourself having achieved it. What will getting your goal feel like, Smell like, taste like? Where are you when you achieve it and Who’s are you with when you do…?

**O – Opportunities/Options** – who do you know? Are there courses? How can you get it?

**R – Resources** – what do you have / What will you need

**W – What & When** – what will you achieve and by when? Bigger goals may need to be broken into smaller ones.

**A – Action** – what are the tasks required and what can you start doing tomorrow

**R – Responsibility/Accountability** – being aware of how your goal could impact your Ecology (family, friends & environment)

**D – Deliver on your promise to yourself.**
